What ancient energies are whispering in your heart?

Cartomancy is the art of using a deck of cards— Tarot cards, Oracle cards, even poker cards -and using the archetypes depicted on them to access Divine energy.

Often dismissed as silly nonsense, the time-tested and profound art of Cartomancy is best reflected in the archetype work of psychologist and philosopher Carl Jung. Jung defined archetypes as characters or roles that we connect with and fulfill throughout our life-journey, such as mother bear, the wise elder, and the trickster.

The power of the Tarot and Oracle Cards is to imbue a card with the power of an archetype. When we use Cartomancy to explore our hearts, thoughts, and aspirations, the archetypes in our selected decks are what guide us to further questioning and learning.

There are some who use Cartomancy as a form of Divination, or fortune telling. I have found my place with the art form as an explorer, experimenter, and questioner, using the cards to facilitate that deepened self-understanding.

Tarot vs. Oracle

There are two major types of decks used for Cartomancy: Oracle Cards and Tarot Cards. What’re the differences? Which should I choose?

Tarot Cards

Tarot dates back to the late 14th century. Every Tarot deck has the same cards: 14 cards in 4 suits (the Minor Arcana) and 22 other Archetypes (the Major Arcana). Tarot is the most explicit of the two, with the same symbology. This allows us to see evolutions in draws easily.

Oracle Cards

Oracle Cards are incredibly diverse. Every Oracle deck has a different theme, such as regional flora, the Greek or Norse pantheons, or a certain type of animal. Oracle cards are therefore more flexible and adaptable to an individual card reading, with unique archetypes calling to the reader.
